Queer vulture

Somewhere in the Southwest of the Fragmented States, our 4 by 4 broke down. We scratched around in the desert dirt, looking for Roman coins. But every coin we thought we found, turned out to be a Coca-Cola bottle top, printed as a Roman coin. Coke knew their time was nearly up; they wanted their remains to be rediscovered as greatness.

It was a hot day. Not bleak as it should have been, but orange, fiery, with a sense of adventure. The adventure came from the sky, a genderwild vulture which I knew to be me, wearing frilly skirts, leggings, talons, wings, and barbs on long threads shooting out from its head, like a cat o’ nine tails, but made of softer material, like a spider`s web, with tiny soft spheres along the lengths of the threads, like knots. It somersaulted in the air, neither male nor female, it was clearly both joyous and dangerous, but without a clear head.

The genderwild vulture was a sign. A sign for my wife, who appeared next to me in the desert. She said This is for you, at which the vulture took me through a void in the desert to a completely different world. From unconsciousness I descended down into a system of deep caves, thrilled. Finally, amongst a procession of others, I was led into a cavern, where our hosts sung a choral piece, the purpose of which was to remind us to hang up our coats. Someone mentioned Jane Eyre, which I have never read. At this point, the dream dissolved…I wonder what clues Jane could have for the genderwild?

Breaking consensus as proof of love (#1)

Last night I had a dream that I was sat at a table with strangers, as if it were a lunch table during a group retreat somewhere, and an older guy sat next to me and started talking to me about love. Somehow I understood that he was a Christian philosopher, and I told him I didn`t mind him talking to me, but I could assure him that he would not convert me to Christianity. He was unfazed by my words, and proceeded to explain that there are two ways to analyse love. The first is a cool intellectual way, observing that love exists between all of us. Which is a nice thought, he said. And the second way is by breaking consensus. He did not have time to explain fully what he meant before I woke up, but directly after I woke up, and was lying in bed, I started to contemplate this: How can love be analysed by breaking consensus? I came to the conclusion that breaking a consensus view (or putting forward an individual view that is different to the consensus view on something, held by a group of friends you are part of, or your family, or any other group) is a test of love because it is a potential source of conflict. But also it is a demonstration of love, that you love and trust other people enough to openly differ from them, though it should be done respectfully. It further could demonstrate a higher love of Truth and love of the truth inside yourself, equivalent to a high level of self-respect, because if you stay silent when you disagree with a group which you are part of, you are not being true to yourself or to the unfolding universe. But this is not always easy to deal with and practice. Sometimes we pretend it is easier to go with the flow and stay silent, even when going with the flow is actually blocking our private flow.

Slow burning bestseller (#2): climate collapse was yesterday

To say that climate collapse was yesterday is a provocate statement which sounds either like climate denialism or climate fatalism. However, the way I mean it, it is neither. What I mean is, catastrophic climate warming is locked in (just read the scientific communications of James Hansen, here). Existing warming and warming in the pipeline guarantee severe societal disruption over the coming decades, at the very least. That doesnt mean we shouldnt reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as much as possible, right now. It doesnt mean we shouldn`t repair damaged ecosystems. It does mean we should have a sober assessment of possible future scenarios in our own lives and those we are connected to, and put strategies in place, ideally, which could deal with many of these scenarios equally.

Meanwhile, please take a look at the anthology I edited for Arkbound: Climate Collapse? -Calls to Action from Around the World. This anthology features many diverse voices on the subjects of the climate crisis, the related global ecological crisis, and the societal collapse induced by these crises. It might not be quite appropriate for me to end with the imperative, Enjoy!

AI Tomorrows, FLASH!, Many feminisms

Mankiller AI

Prologue

The potential for a Mankiller AI that would destroy anything patriarchal that it touched, was obvious to many hardcore feminists as soon as the likes of ChatGPT and Google Gemini had made their dent in the global consciousness. What was not so clear, was how to design and protect it, seeing as the activities of such an AI would in large part need to be illegal. In the end, a small group of international AI coders who called themselves BITSCH (not the Swiss municipality) decided on a comprehensive strategy, itself aided by generative AI, to launch Mankiller AI (not publicly named as such, of course), and the strategy they chose was based on a single popular and relatively benign AI tool which, it was intended, would deceive targeted (but not all) users to download and spread more malignant sister versions of the AI, programmed with various mankilling purposes, as well as more seriously destructive AI malware daughters. What BITSCH did not foresee and could not hope for, was the decentralised activist-terrorist mankiller network that grew up around Mankiller AI, completely without their bidding, consent or input. They could also not foresee the bizarre cult of Daughters of Daji (DAODA) which was founded in response to Mankiller AI. Nevertheless, both the mankiller network and the cult helped to obfuscate the origins of Mankiller AI, and BITSCH were not particularly against the actions of the network or DAODA, as all such actions generally aided the mission of Mankiller AI. However, after 3 years on the loose, Mankiller AI and its progeny began to be uncontrollable. This is where our story begins…
